La Nouvelle-Zélande suspend ses relations avec Israël
Le gouvernement de Nouvelle-Zélande a suspendu jeudi ses relations diplomatiques de haut niveau avec l'État d'Israël, après l'arrestation et la condamnation de deux espions israéliens sur son territoire. La Nouvelle-Zélande entend également s'opposer à la visite du président israélien, Moshe Katsav, sur son territoire, prévue au mois d'août prochain.
En vertu d'une décision annoncée par la première ministre Helen Clark, un visa sera désormais demandé aux Israéliens qui désirent entrer en Nouvelle-Zélande. De plus, toutes les relations entre les ministères des Affaires étrangères des deux pays seront interrompues.
Uriel Zoshe Kelman et Eli Cara ont été arrêtés le 23 mars dernier par la police néo-zélandaise au terme d'une filature menée jusqu'au lieu où les deux espions devaient récupérer un passeport dont ils avaient frauduleusement fait la demande. Accusés dans les médias du pays d'être des agents du Mossad, les deux prévenus ont plaidé coupables devant les tribunaux à plusieurs chefs d'accusations dont celui de tentative frauduleuse d'obtention d'un visa néo-zélandais et celui de participation à un groupe criminel organisé en vue d'obtenir un faux passeport. Les deux Israéliens ont été condamnés à six mois de prison.
Aucune explication ni excuses d'Israël
« Israël n'a fourni aucune explication, aucune excuse », a déploré la première ministre Clark, expliquant que ce n'était pas la première fois que des agents du Mossad utilisaient des passeports d'un pays tiers afin de couvrir leurs agissements. « Des agents israéliens ont été interpellés en 1997, avec des passeports canadiens frauduleux en pleine tentative d'assassinat, en Jordanie », a ajouté la première ministre.

Réagissant rapidement à cette levée de boucliers des Néo-Zélandais, le ministre des Affaires étrangères d'Israël a exprimé ses regrets et s'est dit « désolé » de la prise de sanctions à l'endroit de son pays. Selon Tel-Aviv, Israël agira au plus tôt pour tenter de rétablir des relations normales avec la Nouvelle-Zélande.
Le président Moshé Katzav, qui devait faire une étape le mois prochain en Nouvelle-Zélande, à l'occasion d'une visite en Australie, a pour sa part exprimé l'espoir que les choses s'éclaircissent et se règlent entre les deux pays.

J'ai peut-être une autre explication .
Des israëliens ont à plusieurs reprises été arrêtés aux US à proximité d'installations sensibles .
Le gouvernement US nous promet des attentats de grande envergure .
Les néo-zélandais se méfient ...Mais pouvaient-ils ignorer qu'ils sont espionnés comme tout le monde ? Non ... Ils craignent autre chose .
En réalité cette nouvelle est un coup de plus à la théorie AlQaeda=origine de tous les attentats ... Elle montre que les gouvernements , qui sont informés , eux , savent de qui il faut se méfier aussi .

Eli Cara and Uriel Kelman were taking a business class flight to Hong Kong after being released from prison before dawn today.
They were expected to fly from Hong Kong on to Israel with police escorts.
They left Mt Eden Prison just after 5am this morning after being sentenced to six months prison in the Auckland High Court for passport fraud.
Two cars arrived at the gates of Mt Eden prison when the pair were released this morning. One car waited at the gates while another drove inside, then came out several minutes later with people, believed to be the Israelis in the back seat of the vehicle.
The two cars in convoy then left the prison at speed.
There was no sign of the men at Auckland International Airport today. But at about 7am lawyer Nigel Faigan, who had represented Cara in court, arrived with a man who had attended court hearings.
Mr Faigan would not comment on Mr Cara's departure.
A police officer at the airport told the Herald that from his list of people being deported, there was no indication that the men were supposed to be leaving today.
The official date for the pair's release was Friday.
But the Corrections Department policy is that prisoners can only be released Mondays to Wednesdays.
The policy also says that prisoners are supposed to be released between 7am and 8pm unless arrangements had been made with police or courts or unless there were special circumstances.
Cara and Kelman had completed the statutory one-third of their six-month sentence for trying to obtain a New Zealand passport. They were members of a group believed to be part of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.
The Government is still waiting for an apology from the Israeli Government.
The Israeli Government has never acknowledged their status, but Helen Clark said after they were sentenced that they were intelligence agents.
The Government demanded an apology from Israel, suspended high-level official visits and delayed the appointment of Israel's new Australia ambassador to also cover New Zealand.
Helen Clark said yesterday she was still waiting for an apology, and the diplomatic sanctions would stay until she got one.
"We don't like having to take the sort of measures we did take against a country we've had friendly relations with," she told One News.
Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff said in July the dispute between the two countries could not be resolved until the Israeli Government explained itself and apologised.
Cara and Kelman pleaded guilty to the charges against them, and Mr Goff said six months' imprisonment, of which they would serve only two months, was "relatively light punishment".
